A single-juan late-Táng auxiliary liturgical apparatus by Zhànrán 湛然 (711–782) supplementing Zhìyǐ’s Fǎhuá sānmèi chànyí (KR6d0191, T1941). The work provides additional practical instruction for the Fǎhuá sānmèi practice, including detailed visualisation (yùnxiǎng 運想) procedures that Zhìyǐ’s foundational text had left implicit.
Abstract
Zhànrán’s Bǔzhù yí belongs together with the brief Lüè Fǎhuá sānmèi bǔzhù yí (KR6d0193) and the Lǐ Fǎhuájīng yíshì (KR6d0194) as the principal Táng-period supplementary liturgical apparatus for the standard Tiāntái Lotus Sūtra repentance cycle. The composition is bracketed within Zhànrán’s mature productive period c. 750–782.
