Huáyán yuán rén lùn hé jiě 華嚴原人論合解

Combined Explication of the Inquiry into the Origin of Humanity of the Huáyán [School] by 圓覺 (Yuánjué, 解 / explication) and 揚嘉祚 (Yáng Jiāzuò, 刪合 / editorially merged)

About the work

This 2-fascicle text is the Míng-period merging-and-abridgement of 圓覺 Yuánjué’s earlier 3-fascicle [[KR6e0107|Yuán rén lùn jiě]] (X1032), edited by 揚嘉祚 Yáng Jiāzuò. The result is a more compact and accessible version of Yuánjué’s Yuán-period commentary, suitable for late-Míng monastic and lay study.

Abstract

The bracket adopted here (1370 – 1644) reflects the broad late-Yuán to late-Míng period during which the editorial merging took place. The work documents the late-imperial Chinese Buddhist tradition’s continuing engagement with 宗密 Zōngmì’s foundational Yuán rén lùn, which by then had been the subject of more than seven centuries of continuous commentarial activity.

The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng (X1033) collection.
