Huáyán yuán rén lùn jiě 華嚴原人論解
Explication of the Inquiry into the Origin of Humanity of the Huáyán [School] by 圓覺 (Yuánjué, 述)
About the work
This 3-fascicle text is the Yuán-period commentary by 圓覺 Yuánjué on 宗密 Zōngmì’s [[KR6e0105|Yuán rén lùn]] (T1886) — distinct from and post-dating 淨源 Jìngyuán’s earlier Northern-Sòng [[KR6e0106|Fā wēi lù]] (X1031). Yuánjué’s commentary takes a more systematic approach than Jìngyuán’s, providing line-by-line philological-doctrinal exposition for Yuán readers.
Prefaces
No formal preface.
Abstract
The bracket adopted here (1300 – 1368) reflects the Yuán dynasty period during which the work was composed. Yuánjué’s commentary continued the SòngYuán Buddhist tradition of intensive commentarial scholarship on Zōngmì’s foundational doxographical text.
The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng (X1032) collection.
