Abstract

The work is precisely datable through the colophon to Guāngxù 31 / yǐsì 乙巳 (1905 CE), per DILA A000281. The bracket adopted here (1905 – 1905) reflects this exact dating. The work — produced just six years before the fall of the Qīng — is one of the latest pre-modern Chinese Buddhist commentaries on the Avataṃsaka and documents the continuing vitality of traditional Buddhist publishing at the end of the imperial period.

The work is preserved in the Manji Xù zàng jīng (X242) collection.
