About the work
This 1-fascicle text by 求那跋陀羅 Guṇabhadra is the famous Bá yī qiè yè zhàng dhāraṇī — the Pure Land Spirit-Spell — one of the most widely-recited dhāraṇīs in Chinese Pure Land devotional practice. The dhāraṇī is recited as a prelude to niàn fó practice and is believed to remove the karmic obstacles that would otherwise impede rebirth in Sukhāvatī.
