Shíshàn yèdào jīng jiéyào 十善業道經節要
Essentials of the Sūtra of the Path of the Ten Wholesome Actions edited and abridged by 智旭 Ǒuyì Zhìxù (編訂)
About the work
The Shí-shàn yèdào jīng jiéyào (X706) is a one-fascicle late-Ming / early-Qīng abridged-and-annotated edition by Ǒuyì Zhìxù 蕅益智旭 (智旭; 1599–1655) of KR6i0234 Shí-shàn yèdào jīng 十善業道經 (T600), Śikṣānanda’s translation of the Daśakuśala-karmapatha-sūtra.
Prefaces
Ǒuyì’s preface — preserved in the Xùzàngjīng — explains his motive: to extract from the canonical text its essential teaching for the use of laypeople and to make it serviceable as a daily-recitation text within his project of laicized Buddhist ethics.
Abstract
An ethical-pedagogical condensation of T600 produced as part of Ǒuyì Zhìxù’s broader late-Ming / early-Qīng program of synthetic jiàoChánjìng (teachings-Chán-Pure-Land) Buddhist reform. Ǒuyì’s many such jiéyào and yìjì writings constitute a parallel “lay canon” of essential Mahāyāna ethics.
