About the work
The Shí-shàn yèdào jīng (T600, Daśakuśala-karmapatha-sūtra) is a one-fascicle Mahāyāna sūtra translated by Śikṣānanda 實叉難陀 (實叉難陀) at Cháng’ān under Wǔ Zétiān 武則天. The Buddha, seated in the palace of the Sea-Nāga king Sāgara, expounds the ten paths of wholesome action (no killing, theft, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, covetousness, ill-will, and wrong views) and their cosmic consequences.

The text opens with the canonical formula. The setting at the Nāga palace places it in the same narrative cycle as KR6i0232 and KR6i0233.
Abstract
A foundational text of East Asian Buddhist ethics, datable to Śikṣānanda’s main translation period at Cháng’ān (695–700 CE), the same period in which he translated the eighty-fascicle Avataṃsaka (T279). It is the locus classicus for the East-Asian doctrine of the daśa-kuśala-karma-patha and the basis of Ouyi Zhixu’s KR6i0236 Shí-shàn yèdào jīng jiéyào 十善業道經節要 (X706).
