Léngqié jīng zuǎn 楞伽經纂

Compendium of the Sūtra of Laṅkā (Zhōnghuá-canon recension) sūtra translated by 求那跋陀羅 (Qiúnàbátuóluó / Guṇabhadra, 譯經); annotations by 楊彥國 (Yáng Yànguó, 詮註)

About the work

C1821 in four fascicles is the Zhōnghuá-canon (中華大藏經) recension of 楊彥國’s Léngqié jīng zuǎn — the parallel transmission to X325. Whereas X325 (in the Wànzì Xuzangjing) presents Yáng’s compendium freestanding, C1821 presents the parent translation by 求那跋陀羅 as the head-text with Yáng’s quánzhù 詮註 (interpretive annotations) inserted in situ.

Prefaces

C1821 preserves the same preface by 楊彥國 that opens X325 — the Bodhidharma-frame on the Chán transmission of the Laṅkāvatāra mind-seal, with the textual exposition added as a defense against corruption.

Abstract

C1821 is significant primarily for the philological evidence of two distinct transmissions of the same Sòng-period Laṅkāvatāra zuǎn. The dating considerations and authorial-frame discussion are the same as for KR6i0341; refer to that entry for details. The Zhōnghuá-canon recension’s preservation of 求那跋陀羅’s parent translation as a head-line makes C1821 the more useful witness for Sòng-period Laṅkāvatāra reading practice; X325 is the more useful witness for the zuǎn commentary as a freestanding work.
