Jīngāngdǐng yújiā sānshíqīzūn lǐ 金剛頂瑜伽三十七尊禮

Liturgy of Homage to the Thirty-Seven Worthies of the Vajraśekhara-yoga by 不空 (Amoghavajra, 譯)

About the work

A short one-fascicle liturgical-homage text by Amoghavajra (不空) for the 37 Vajradhātu deities — companion to KR6j0045 (the lǐchàn wén). Where KR6j0045 is a full penitential liturgy with confession-and-homage components, KR6j0046 is a focused homage-only liturgy ( 禮) — a shorter daily devotional text addressed sequentially to the 37 deities.

Abstract

The Sānshíqīzūn lǐ gives a sequential homage-formula for the 37 Vajradhātu deities — the practitioner makes prostration to each deity in turn, with the deity’s epithet, bīja, and brief invocation. The text is the shortest of the Vajradhātu liturgical compositions and was used as a portable daily-devotion text alongside the longer KR6j0045 lǐchàn.

The composition dates from Amoghavajra’s mature Chángān period (746–774). The text became a standard daily-practice text in Japanese Shingon and Tendai-Esoteric traditions.
