Sūtra of the Most-Victorious Buddha-Crown Dhāraṇī Mantra for Purifying Karmic Obstructions (recension B of Divākara’s Uṣṇīṣa-vijaya-dhāraṇī-sūtra) by 地婆訶羅 Dìpóhēluó (Divākara, 譯)

About the work

A one-fascicle parallel translation by Divākara (地婆訶羅), companion to his own KR6j0146 (T969). The title elaborates the karma-purifying function of the dhāraṇī.

Abstract

T970 is Divākara’s second translation of the same Sanskrit Uṣṇīṣa-vijaya-dhāraṇī-sūtra tradition. The two parallel Divākara translations may reflect successive editorial passes by the translator; together with Buddhapāli’s T967, Dù Xíngyǐ’s T968, and Yìjìng’s T971, they constitute the five canonical Táng translations of this most-popular dhāraṇī. The translation dates from Divākara’s Cháng’ān period (676–688).
