A short one-fascicle anonymous Tang manual on the construction of an abhiṣeka-altar (受法壇 = Skt. abhiṣeka-maṇḍala) for the Hayagrīva-Avalokiteśvara cycle. Anonymous; the Sanskrit transliteration Héyējiēlìpó matches that used in KR6j0280 (T20n1073). The text is the maṇḍala-component of the Tang Hayagrīva trilogy (KR6j0279, KR6j0280, KR6j0281) supplementing Amoghavajra’s full yíguǐ (KR6j0278).
Abstract
The opening — “若有沙門。若婆羅門諸善男子善女人等。欲…” — invites śramaṇas, brāhmaṇas, and lay devotees who wish to receive the Hayagrīva abhiṣeka into the formal procedure of altar-construction and consecration. The text gives the spatial layout of the altar (square, four cubits per side, with the wrathful Hayagrīva at the centre, the Padma-section deities at the cardinal directions, the krodha-rāja attendants at the corners), the consecration sequence, and the abhiṣeka recitation. As an anonymous Tang Hayagrīva-altar manual, the text is contemporaneous with — and probably extracted from — the larger Atikūṭa compendium (KR6c0098 = T901, fasc. 6), which CANWWW (T20N1074) cross-references along with the rest of the Hayagrīva cluster.
