About the work
A second parallel rendering of the Mārīcī-dhāraṇī material treated above in KR6j0484 (T1255a). Both are attributed to Amoghavajra (不空); they differ in textual detail (mantra-form, narrative-frame, iconographic detail), and both were retained in the Taishō because the divergences could not be reduced. Date: Amoghavajra’s Chángān activity, 746–774.
Abstract
Same Mārīcī-dhāraṇī material as T1255a, but in a slightly different recension. Comparison shows mainly orthographic and phonetic variations in the transliterated mantra-syllables, plus minor compression of the framing-narrative. As elsewhere in the Esoteric corpus, parallel recensions of the same Sanskrit kalpa-material were retained because the Indian sources themselves diverged.
