A short Xùzàngjīng-only dhāraṇī preserved without translator-attribution. The catalog meta records no dynasty. The vocabulary — extended use of fully-transcribed Sanskrit jhālambha / jvālambha (闍藍婆) and a vivid water-cosmography — points to a high-medieval Tang Esoteric provenance, but the lack of colophon prevents firm attribution. The dating window 317–906 reflects this open philological window. The closing rubric Shuǐfēng mónígōng tuóluóní lún 水風摩尼宮陀羅尼輪 (“the Water-Wind Maṇi-Palace Dhāraṇī-Wheel”) suggests the text belongs to a jalavāyucintāmaṇi-pavilion tradition not otherwise attested in the canonical Tang Esoteric corpus.
Abstract
The text is the vidyā alone, with its colophon. It opens tadyathā jvālambha mahājvālambha anuthajvālambha sārajvālambha ugrajvālambha yakṣavīrajvālambha nāgajvālambha urāgavīrā jvālambha asatbhīrjvālambha aśvabhavīrajvālambha matsyavīrajvālambha maṇḍūkavīrajvālambha ākṣamūravīrajvālambha bhṛkutīvīrajvālambha amāvīrajvālambha sucīmukhajvālambha vāmaravāmarajvālambha māra-vibhija-kaḍi-paṭra-pruṣpapharambhā sukṣarīgo-bha sudharma-yajñā vrissītī saherambhā gāśambha (or gāgaṃbhā) prabhā vamanaprajamanaprajamanaprabhā prabhārāja-bhi svāhā. — in chant-format with internal repetitions.
The colophon explains: “These dhāraṇī phrases — if pronounced for another, or for oneself, naming the name [of the protected one] and reciting this dhāraṇī — all fears, all calamities, will be wholly extinguished. The Water-Wind Cintāmaṇi-Palace Dhāraṇī-Wheel.”
The structure of the spell — invoking jvālambha (“flame-strung”) through the categories of yakṣa, nāga, mahoraga, fish, frog, etc. — is unusual within the Chinese dhāraṇī corpus, suggesting an underlying jala-rakṣaṇa / aquatic protection ritual.
