Bringing Forth the Hidden: Sub-Commentary on the Yìshū Commentary on the Brahmajāla Sūtra by 袾宏 (Zhūhóng, 發隱)
About the work
A five-fascicle late-Míng sub-commentary by Yúnqī Zhūhóng 雲棲袾宏 (袾宏, 1535–1615) on 智顗 Zhìyǐ–灌頂 Guàndǐng’s Fànwǎng púsàjièjīng yìshū (KR6k0084). 發隱 fāyǐn “bringing forth the hidden” expresses the genre — a sub-commentary that draws out the deeper meanings of the parent commentary.

Abstract
Zhūhóng’s commentary is one of the foundational documents of the late-Míng Vinaya revival, in which Zhūhóng — together with 憨山德清 Hānshān Déqīng (1546–1623) and 智旭 Ǒuyì Zhìxù 蕅益智旭 — sought to recover practical Vinaya scholarship after the long Míng decline of monastic discipline. Zhūhóng’s emphasis on the Fànwǎng bodhisattva-precepts as the foundation of both monastic and lay Buddhist ethics shaped the late-Míng synthesis of Pure Land devotion, Chán meditation, and bodhisattva-discipline. Together with the auxiliary texts KR6k0087 (shìyì) and KR6k0088 (wènbiàn), this work constitutes Zhūhóng’s complete Fànwǎng commentary.
