Abstract

Companion text to KR6k0065 (Yōupósè wǔjièxiāng jīng), this work supplies the practical-behavioural elaboration of the five lay precepts. Guṇavarman’s full lay-precept apparatus comprises both the wǔjièxiāng (the doctrinal-categorical text) and the present wēiyí (the behavioural-procedural text), giving the early Chinese lay Buddhist communities the complete practical handbook for the upāsaka pañca-śīla.
