Chéng wéishí lùn yīnxiǎng bǔyí 成唯識論音響補遺

Phonetic-and-Resonance Supplement to the Demonstration of Consciousness-Only by 智素 (Zhìsù, 補遺)

About the work

A ten-fascicle commentary on KR6n0016 Chéng wéishí lùn by the early-Qīng monk 智素 (Zhìsù), accompanied by the structural outline KR6n0048 . The “yīnxiǎng bǔyí” 音響補遺 (“phonetic-and-resonance supplement”) title indicates that the work specifically supplements the late-Míng commentaries (especially Zhìxù’s KR6n0047 guānxīn fǎyào) with phonetic glosses and additional doctrinal-resonance material that those commentaries had passed over. Preserved in the Xuzangjing (X51n0826).

Abstract

The yīnxiǎng bǔyí extends the late-Míng Yogācāra revival into the Qīng period. Where the late-Míng commentaries focused on doctrinal-systematic exposition, Zhìsù’s work pays significant attention to philological detail — pronunciation, archaic vocabulary, and obscure technical terms — that the late-Míng commentators had treated only in passing. This makes the bǔyí a useful complementary reference text for any study of T1585 in conjunction with the late-Míng commentaries.

The dating bracket adopted (1644–1750) covers the early-to-mid Qīng. The work is preserved only in the Xuzangjing and not in the principal Qīng-period canonical editions.
