About the work
A single-fascicle anonymous Dūnhuáng-manuscript topical zhāng on the Mahāyāna-saṅgraha — distinct from KR6n0068 (T85n2807) but sharing its formal genre. Edited into volume 85 of the Taishō (T85n2808). The shorter title (Shèlùn zhāng rather than Shè dàshèng lùn zhāng) suggests a slightly later or more colloquial provenance; the surviving fascicle is also juǎn 1 of the original.
Structural Division
CANWWW (T85N2808) does not assign internal structure. The fascicle treats the doctrines of the four wisdom-fields (sì zhǒng zhì 四種智), the three jewels as objects of veneration (sān zhǒng jìngjiè 三種境界), and the path through the bodhisattva bhūmis, all in framework borrowed from the Mahāyāna-saṅgraha.
Abstract
The text’s surviving body opens with a discussion of the role of the bodhisattva path’s “supreme meritorious field” (wúshàng fútián 無上福田) in cultivating awakening, then proceeds through topical analysis of the three jewels of refuge as treated in Asaṅga’s compendium. Like its companions, it represents a Shèlùn school zhāng literature of which only fragments now survive. Authorship is unknown; internal vocabulary places it in the Shèlùn rather than Cí’ēn doctrinal milieu. The dating window (600–900) is the standard Dūnhuáng manuscript range.
The work is one of five Dūnhuáng Mahāyāna-saṅgraha commentarial fragments — alongside KR6n0066, KR6n0067, KR6n0068, KR6n0070 — that together document the lost Shèlùn-school exegetical tradition of seventh- to ninth-century northwest China.
