About the work
A sixteen-fascicle Chinese version of the Abhidharmasamuccaya-bhāṣya — Sthiramati’s commentary on Asaṅga’s Abhidharmasamuccaya (translated separately as KR6n0081 T31n1605) — interwoven with the root text. The catalog’s distinctive verb “róu” 糅 (“blended”, “interwoven”) signals that this is not a separate bhāṣya but a unified text in which the Indian commentator wove his comments into the body of Asaṅga’s work, producing a continuous integrated presentation. The Chinese translation tradition attributes this redaction to Sthiramati (安慧菩薩); some Tibetan sources attribute the bhāṣya portions to Buddhasiṃha and the integration to Sthiramati.
Structural Division
CANWWW (T31N1606) does not preserve a per-fascicle internal table. The sixteen juǎn track the eight-part structure of the Abhidharmasamuccaya but with the integrated commentary, hence the larger total fascicle count.
Abstract
The translation was completed by 玄奘 at Hóngfúsì 弘福寺 in 646–647 (Zhēnguān 20–21), per the Kāiyuán shìjiào lù j. 8 — earlier than Xuánzàng’s translation of the root text alone (KR6n0081, 652). This sequence (commentary first, root text later) is not unusual: Xuánzàng tended to translate the most-used reference works of his immediate Yogācāra curriculum first, and the integrated zájí lùn — being the form most accessible to advanced students — was prioritised.
The text became, with the KR6n0081 root text, the canonical East Asian Yogācāra abhidharma. 窺基 composed his now-mostly-lost zájí lùn shùjì on it (KR6n0083 X48n0796 preserves a portion); the work is heavily cited throughout the Cí’ēn commentarial corpus. The Sanskrit original is partially preserved (Tatia 1976); the Tibetan version (D 4053) is in two parts (root + commentary) without the róu / interwoven format.
