Yuèlín Shīguān chánshī yǔlù 月林師觀禪師語錄

Sayings-Record of Chán Master Yuèlín Shīguān — a one-juan Southern-Sòng yǔlù of Yuèlín Shīguān 月林師觀 (1143–1217), Línjì-Yángqí-sub-lineage master. Compiled by a group of nine attendant-disciples (shìzhě 侍者): Fǎbǎo, Fǎshú, Qìnghuì, Fǎqīng, Yǒuzōng, Wéiguī, Dàoguǒ, Huìkāi (= Wúmén Huìkāi 無門慧開, the future compiler of the Wú mén guān!), and Déxiù.

One-juan Southern-Sòng Chán yǔlù, X69 n1354. Non-commentary; commentedTextid omitted.

Huìkāi 慧開 (1183–1260) is particularly noteworthy among the compilers: as Wúmén Huìkāi 無門慧開, he would later compile the famous Wúmén guān 無門關 (Japanese Mumonkan) in 1228 — one of the most important Chinese Chán gōng’àn collections. His presence here as a young attendant-editor of his master’s yǔlù documents his early-career position.

Dating: notBefore c. 1150 (Shīguān’s mature career); notAfter c. 1220 (shortly after his 1217 death).
