This entry is the Korean canon (Goryeo Tripiṭaka, K1064) recension of the same two-juan Huì-yuàn yīn-yì 慧苑音義 to the new (Śikṣānanda) translation of the Avataṃsaka-sūtra, otherwise catalogued in the Kanripo at KR6s0011 as the Jīn-cáng (Zhào-chéng Jīn-cáng) recension (A1066). Authorship, date, byline, and content are identical to KR6s0011 — the byline at the head of juan 1 reads 京兆靜法寺沙門慧菀述 in both witnesses. Prefaces
The auto-preface by Huì-yuàn is identical to that preserved in the Jīn-cáng recension (KR6s0011) — see that entry for the paraphrase. The Korean text is the standard early-witness for this work in the East Asian canonical tradition, having been incorporated into the Goryeo Tripiṭaka in the eleventh-century printing project from Northern Sòng exemplars.
Abstract
The two recensions (KR6s0011 from the Jīncáng / Zhàochéng Jīncáng tradition, dating to ca. 1149–1173 in printing terms; KR6s0012 from the Korean canon, eleventh-century printing) are the principal pre-Huì-lín (807) independent witnesses to the Huìyuàn yīnyì. They differ in occasional fǎnqiè spellings and in minor lemma-orderings but transmit the same authorial text. The Kanripo preserves both witnesses separately because the Mandoku catalog system assigns one entry per canon-edition source-file rather than collapsing parallel witnesses of a single text. In modern critical editions (e.g. Xú Shíyí 2008’s Yīqièjīng yīnyì sānzhǒng jiàoběn hékān) the two recensions are collated together against a third Dūnhuáng witness.

Other points of interest
The Goryeo Tripiṭaka’s preservation of the Huì-yuàn yīn-yì as an independent text — rather than allowing it to be absorbed into the Huì-lín yīn-yì alone — is one of the principal reasons the work survives today in independent form. The decision reflects the Goryeo editors’ value-judgement on the integrity of the early-eighth-century Huá-yán philological tradition, distinct from the late-eighth-century Huì-lín synthesis.
