Buddhamitra 佛陀蜜多 (lifedates unknown), Sarvāstivāda meditation master active in Kashmir / Gandhāra in the third or fourth century CE. He is named as the author of the Wǔ-mén chán-jīng yàoyòng-fǎ 五門禪經要用法 (T619), a manual on the “five gates” of meditation practice (counting-breaths, contemplation of the impure, loving-kindness, dependent origination, and recollection of the Buddha) which was translated into Chinese by Dharmamitra 曇摩蜜多 (曇摩蜜多) under the Liú-Sòng. The catalog dynasty assignment 劉宋 in the meta refers to the date of translation, not to Buddhamitra himself, who belongs to the older Indian yoga tradition predating the Maitreya / Asaṅga Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra.
