Ní Wéidé 倪維德 (zì Zhòngxián 仲賢, hào Mínzhāi 敏齋, 1303–1377), late-Yuán / early-Míng physician of Wúxiàn 吳縣 (Sūzhōu, Jiāngsū). A hereditary physician of three generations on his mother’s side, he studied medicine first under his maternal kin and then with Wáng Lǚ 王履, the leading disciple of 朱震亨 Zhū Dānxī; through this line he is reckoned the principal carrier of the Dān-xī-school ophthalmological tradition into the early Míng. He served as imperial-medical-academy attendant (太醫院醫士) under the Yuán in his youth and retired to private practice in Sūzhōu before the YuánMíng transition; his contemporaries dubbed him “Yī shèng” 醫聖 (“medical-sage”) for his diagnostic reputation. His single major surviving work is the KR3em001 Yuánjī qǐwēi 原機啟微 (2 juǎn with a Jiā-jìng-era appendix), the earliest fully-extant Chinese ophthalmology monograph organised by aetiology rather than by symptomatic taxonomy; the work supplanted the older five-wheel / eight-quadrant Lóngmù lùn tradition (cf. KR3em003) and became the conceptual prototype of all subsequent literate-physician ophthalmology, including KR3em007 Yīzōng jīnjiàn · Yǎnkē xīnfǎ yàojué. Lifedates per CBDB (c_personid 105158).
