Rúlǐ 如理 was a late-Tang Cí’ēn / Fǎxiàng commentator known principally for two surviving works: KR6n0038 Chéng wéishí lùn shū yìyǎn 成唯識論疏義演 (X49n0815, 12 fascicles) and KR6n0039 Chéng wéishí lùn yǎnmì shì 成唯識論演秘釋 (X50n0816, 1 fascicle). The two together represent a careful sub-commentarial elaboration of the Cí’ēn corpus on the Chéng wéishí lùn. No biographical material survives independently. On internal grounds (his use of 智周’s yǎnmì and 慧沼’s liǎoyì dēng) Rúlǐ is dated to the eighth or early ninth century. He is to be distinguished from earlier figures of the same name (e.g. the Sanlun-school 如理 of the early Tang).
