Mèng Xǐ 孟喜

Western Hàn 西漢 master, Zhǎngqīng 長卿. One of the principal heads of the Hàn xiàngshù 象數 (“image-and-number”) school, recorded in the Hànshū Rúlín zhuàn 漢書·儒林傳 as a student of Tián Wángsūn 田王孫 (himself a disciple of 田何 Tián Hé). His school developed guàqì 卦氣 (“hexagram-breath”) calendrical-cosmological correlations of the sixty-four hexagrams; the system was carried further by 京房 Jīng Fáng. No independent work by Mèng survives; his readings are preserved as quotations in 李鼎祚 Lǐ Dǐngzuò’s Zhōuyì jíjiě 周易集解 (KR1a0008) and in Qīng jíyì 輯佚 reconstructions.
