宣武帝

Xuānwǔ-dì 宣武帝 (personal name 元恪 Yuán Kè, 483–515) was the eighth emperor of the Northern Wèi 北魏, reigning 499–515. Son of Emperor Xiàowén 孝文帝, he continued the sinicizing policies of his father and was a major patron of Buddhism. Under his patronage the Indian translator 菩提流支 (Pútíliúzhī = Bodhiruci) arrived at Luòyáng in 508 and established the imperial Translation Bureau.
