Xīqiān 希遷 (Shítóu Xīqiān 石頭希遷)
Mid-Tang Chan master, dharma-heir of Qīngyuán Xíngsī 青原行思 and one of the two principal lineage-founders (with Mǎzǔ Dàoyī 馬祖道一) of the post-Huìnéng Southern Chan tradition. Author of the Cān tóng qì 參同契. His lineage gave rise to the Cáodòng, Yúnmén, and Fǎyǎn houses of Sòng Chan. Posthumous title Wújì Dàshī 無際大師. Native of Duānzhōu 端州 in Guǎngdōng; resided on Héngshān 衡山, where the stone-platform from which he took the hào “Shítóu” 石頭 (“Stone-head”) is preserved.
