Kāngxī 康熙 (the Kāngxī emperor, real name 玄燁 Xuányè, temple name 聖祖 Shèngzǔ, 1654–1722, r. 1661–1722), second emperor of the Qīng. Convened the 1679 Bóxué hóngcí 博學鴻詞 special examination as a recruitment device for late-Míng loyalist scholars; among those summoned but refusing service was 傅山 Fù Shān (cf. Fù Qīngzhǔ nǚkē gēkuò KR3ei021 preface).
