Zhāng Jǐngyuè 張景岳
Late-Míng physician (1563–1640), original name Zhāng Jièbīn 張介賓, hào Jǐngyuè 景岳, of Shānyīn 山陰 (modern Shàoxīng 紹興, Zhèjiāng). One of the four canonical late-Míng wēnbǔ 溫補 (warming-and-supplementing) physicians. Author of the Lèijīng 類經 (1624), the standard Míng-period thematic re-organisation of the Nèijīng, and of the Jǐngyuè quánshū 景岳全書 (printed 1700), an extensive systematic compendium of internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, and shānghán doctrine. His doctrine of mìngmén 命門 and emphasis on zhēnyīn / zhēnyáng 真陰/真陽 supplementation is foundational for late-Míng to mid-Qīng internal medicine. The Jǐngyuè quánshū is among the most-cited late-imperial medical compendia.
