Zhāng Yuān 張淵
A late-Qīng lay-Buddhist scholar of Yǎnnán 剡南 (the southern Yǎn region in modern Shèngzhōu 嵊州, Zhèjiāng), hào Qiánshìshì 潛室氏 (“Master of the Hidden Chamber”). Author of the 《念佛起緣彌陀觀偈直解》 Niànfó qǐyuán Mítuó guānjì zhíjiě KR6p0114 (X1195), a 1874 line-by-line zhíjiě exegesis of the popular eight-line bājù guānjì 八句觀偈 contemplation verse, intended to render Pure Land doctrinal content accessible to remote-village lay practitioners. He works within a regional Yǎn-region Pure Land literati circle that included the editorial collaborators Zhāng Mèngxiān 章夢仙 (Lùyóushì 鹿遊氏), Lóu Rén 樓仁 (Shēnjìngshānshì 深靜山氏), Zhào Hóngwén 趙洪文 (Xǔzhāishì 許齋氏), and the monk Jièsù Liánfāng 戒肅蓮芳. Lifedates not preserved.
The CBDB has multiple persons of the name 張淵 across various dynasties (e.g. CBDB id 25611 Sòng; id 199034 Míng with bie-hao 1429); none of these can be confidently matched to the Yǎnnán late-Qīng lay-Buddhist scholar of this entry, who is presumably absent from CBDB.
Not to be confused with: the early Sòng Zhāng Yuān (CBDB 106636, b. 1264); the Yuán-Míng-era Zhāng Yuān of CBDB 199034 (b. 1429); the various other homonyms in CBDB.
