Wùjìn 悟進 (Jièān Wùjìn 介菴悟進)
Mid-seventeenth-century Cáodòng 曹洞 Chán master of the 悟-generation (the generation-character following 妙 in the Wúqù Rúkōng → Wúhuàn → Nánmíng → Yuānhú Miàoyòng sub-line). Hào Jièān 介菴. Dharma-heir of Yuānhú Miàoyòng 鴛湖妙用 (1587–1642); one of three named dharma-heirs (with Yúnfēng Jūn 雲峰鈞 and Yīchū Wùyuán 一初悟元).
After Miàoyòng’s death 1642, Wùjìn served as the principal custodian of the master’s textual legacy: he authored the 行狀 xíngzhuàng (preserved in KR6q0416 juan 2 and signed “Jīnmíng xiǎoshī Wùjìn bài zhuàng 金明小師悟進拜狀”) and co-compiled the yǔlù proper with Wùyuán. Later held the abbacy of Jiāxīng Jīnmíngsì 嘉興金明寺 (“Zuìlǐ Jīnmíngsì tángtóu Jièān Jìn chánshī 檇李金明寺堂頭介菴進禪師” per Tán Zhēnmò’s 1654 tǎmíng). Jointly with Yīchū Wùyuán, bore the master’s relics across many thousand lǐ of war-torn Jiānán to return them to the Jia-xing Xīngshànsì for burial after the MíngQīng transition.
Born Wànlì 萬曆 40 / 10 / 9 = 1 November 1612, died Kāngxī 康熙 12 / 9 / 23 = 1 November 1673, age 62 (僧臘 37). Native of Jiāxìng 嘉興, secular surname Zhāng 張; zì Juéxiān 覺先, hào Jièān 介菴.
He compiled the 《佛祖宗派世譜》 Fó-zǔ zōng-pài shì-pǔ (KR6r0111, X1602, 1 juan), a comprehensive Chán transmission-genealogy from Mahākāśyapa down to his own day. (Note: DILA Buddhist Person Authority A010710 records him as Línjì 楊岐派; the existing note’s classification of him as Cáo-dòng appears to derive from Yuān-hú Miào-yòng’s 鴛湖妙用 own school-affiliation, which itself is contested.)
