Wéibái 惟白

Sobriquet Fóguó 佛國 (“Buddha-land”), the title conferred by imperial decree. Northern Sòng Chán monk, abbot of Fǎyúnsì 法雲寺 in the Northern Sòng capital Biànjīng 汴京 (Kāifēng 開封). Dharma heir in the Yúnmén 雲門 line, under Yúnmén’s fourth-generation descendant Fǎxiù 法秀 (or, in some sources, directly under Yuántōng Fǎxiù 圓通法秀 of Dàxiāngguó 大相國寺). Active c. 1095–1115; exact lifedates not transmitted.

Compiler of the Jiànzhōng jìngguó xùdēng lù 建中靖國續燈錄 (KR6q0007) and its separately-transmitted table of contents (KR6q0006), the third of the five canonical Sòng Chán lamp records, presented to Sòng Huīzōng 徽宗 in 1101. Also credited with miscellaneous occasional pieces preserved in later Chán anthologies.
