Huìxìng 慧性

Southern-Sòng Yángqí-branch Línjì Chán master, hào Wúmíng 無明. Surname Lǐ 李; native of Bāqú 巴渠 in Dázhōu 達州 (modern Sìchuān). Per DILA A013801 and the tǎmíng by Yán Rǔxūn 顏汝勳 appended to his yǔlù: 1162 – Jiāxī 1.7.20 (19 August 1237), shì 76.

Tonsured in Chúnxī 15 wùshēn (1188). Studied first with Fózhào Déguāng 佛照德光 at Jìngshān, and subsequently with 崇岳 Sōngyuán Chóngyuè (1132–1202), serving as his attendant at Língyǐn and receiving dharma-transmission there — in his own formulation, Fózhào gave him “the substance” ( 體) and Sōngyuán “the usage” (yòng 用). His abbacies ran Qízhōu Zīfú 蘄州資福 → Zhìdù 智度 → Lúshān GuīzōngNéngrén 廬山歸宗能仁 → KāixiānHuázàng 開先華藏 → QīxiánBǎojué 棲賢寶覺 → Píngjiāng Yángshān Zūnxiàng 平江陽山尊相 → Shuāngtǎ ShòuníngWànsuì 雙塔壽寧萬歲. His recorded sayings survive as the Wúmíng Huìxìng chánshī yǔlù (KR6q0312).

Principal dharma-heir (per DILA) is Lánxī Dàolóng 蘭溪道隆 (1213–1278), the Chinese founder of the Kenchōji 建長寺 line in Kamakura Japan — the principal Japanese branch of the 松源派 pài alongside the Xūtáng → Nānpo line.
