Zhǎng Yǔxī 掌禹錫 (zì Tángqīng 唐卿, 990–1066), native of Yǐngchéng 郾城 (modern Hénán), was a Northern Sòng jìnshì (1024 / Tiānshèng 2) and senior court official under Rénzōng. CBDB id 26373 gives lifedates 990–1066.
He held the offices of Hànlín shìdú xuéshì 翰林侍讀學士, Lóngtú gé zhíxuéshì 龍圖閣直學士, and various provincial intendancies. His scholarly contribution is the Jiāyòu bǔ zhù shénnóng běncǎo 嘉祐補注神農本草 (1057), the immediate textual source of every later Zhènglèi-line pharmacopoeia. The Jiāyòu project was a complete revision of the Kāibǎo běncǎo 開寶本草 (973–974), supplementing it from Táng / Five-Dynasties / Sòng accumulated literature including the Shǔ běncǎo 蜀本草 of Hán Bǎoshēng 韓保升, the Xīnxiū běncǎo of Sū Jìng 蘇敬, and Wú Pǔ 吳普’s Běncǎo. Zhǎng’s preface, preserved in the Zhènglèi běncǎo (KR3ec009), is the canonical Sòng-dynasty narrative of běncǎo textual history.
