Fāng Xióng 方熊, early-Qing scholar; lifedates and native place not securely recorded. Compiler of the bǔzhù 補注 (“supplementary commentary”) to Rèn Fǎng’s 任昉 Wénzhāng yuánqǐ KR4i0004, built on top of the earlier Míng zhù of Chén Màorén 陳懋仁; in the Sìkù edition each entry headed zhù is Chén’s and each entry headed bǔzhù is Fāng’s. The CBDB Fāng Xióng at id 72485 (1783–1860) is a different person — a late-Qīng Tóng-chéng-school figure whose dates make him impossible for the supplementary commentary preserved in the early-eighteenth-century Sìkù manuscript witness; the Sìkù tíyào tags him guócháo 國朝 (“of our dynasty”) which in late-Qiánlóng usage means anyone of the Qing prior to the 1770s. The Fāng Xióng of the Wénzhāng yuánqǐ supplement is therefore plausibly to be placed in the late Shùnzhì / early Kāngxī generation, but no firm anchor is available. No CBDB id is confidently assigned.
