Cháo Yuèzhī 晁說之 (1059–1129), zì Yǐdào 以道, hào Jǐngyū 景迂 (and Jǐngyūshēng 景迂生 — taken in admiration of Sīmǎ Guāng’s late hào Yū sǒu 迂叟; “Jǐng” = admire, “Yū” = Sīmǎ’s pedant-style), was a Northern–Southern Sòng transition classicist of Jùyě 鉅野 (Shāndōng). Jìnshì of Yuánfèng 5 (1082); was recommended by Sū Shì for the Zhùshùkē 著述科 in the Yuányòu period, and exiled to xiéděng 邪等 in Yuánfú by Xīnfǎ / Cài Jīng faction action. Recalled at the start of Jìngkāng (1126) as Zhùzuò láng, then Zhōngshū shèrén with concurrent Tàizǐ zhānshì; promoted at the start of Jiànyán to Huīyóugé dàizhì. Demoted by Gāozōng for his Fēi Mèngzǐ 非孟子 (against the canonisation of Mèngzǐ) and forced to retire. His Jǐngyūshēng jí 景迂生集 (collected works) preserves substantial corpus; the present Rúyán 儒言 (KR3a0036) circulated separately. He is also the textual critic responsible for diagnosing the received Zǐxià Yìzhuàn (KR1a0001) as a forgery by Zhāng Hú 張弧 (Tang). Member of the Cháo lineage that produced Cháo Bǔzhī 晁補之 (his cousin). Biography: Sòng shǐ j. 444 (Wényuán zhuàn). CBDB id 3029, dates 1059–1129.
