Northern-Sòng Hànlín xuéshì chéngzhǐ and lay Buddhist devotee, zì Míngyuǎn 明遠, posthumous Wényuán 文元, of Chánzhōu Qīngfēng 澶州清豐 (family had moved to Péngmén 彭門). Jìnshì of Tàipíng xīngguó 5 / 980. Pupil of Wáng Yǔchēng 王禹偁. Held Yòuzhèngyán, Zhí Shǐguǎn, Zhīzhìgào, Hànlín xuéshì, Hànlín chéngzhǐ; in Tiānxǐ served as pàn Xījīng liúsī yùshǐtái and retired with the title Tàizǐ shàobǎo. Author of the Fǎzàng suìjīn lù KR4d0007 (10 juǎn, 1027–1031) and Dàoyuàn jí yào KR4d0008 (3 juǎn, edited by Wáng Gǔ 王古) — both expressions of his syncretic Chán-Confucian-Daoist devotion. Founder of the Cháo lineage of Northern-Sòng scholarship; the bibliographer Cháo Gōngwǔ 晁公武 was his fifth-generation descendant. CBDB id 3012, lifedates 951–1034.
