Pǔguāng 普光 (also known as Shìguāng 釋光 and Dàchéng Guāng 大乘光 “Great Vehicle Light”; DILA A000060; fl. mid-to-late 7th century CE) was one of the most prominent disciples of Xuanzang 玄奘 (玄奘) and served for approximately twenty years as his bǐshòu 筆受 (brush-receiver, scribe for dictated translations). He was present at Xuanzang’s major translation projects and is mentioned in colophons for several Taisho texts. The preface to 圓暉’s commentary (KR6l0036) by the Táng official Jiǎ Céng 賈曾 records that 普光 (“大乘光法師”) was “親承密誨,初傳正釋” — “directly received the inner teaching and first transmitted the correct exposition” of the Kośa.
His principal works include the comprehensive commentary 俱舍論記 (KR6l0034, T41n1821, 30 juan) and the brief systematic treatise 俱舍論法宗原 (KR6l0038, X53n837, 1 juan). He is also listed among the proof-readers (zhèng yì 證義) for several of Xuanzang’s translations of the Yogācāra corpus.
