High-Qīng Línjìzōng 臨濟宗 Yángqí 楊岐 branch Chán master, hào Shānxiǎo 山曉 / Xiàotáng 嘯堂. Lifedates 1620 – middle-winter of Kāngxī bǐngyín = 24 January 1686 / 11 February 1687 (shìshòu 67, sēnglà 50). Native of Chángshòu 長壽 xiàn (in Chóngqìng, Sìchuān), lay surname Wèi 魏. Ordained under San-mèi chánshī 三昧和尚 寂光 at age 21; principal dharma-heir of Hóngjué Dàomǐn 道忞 (Shānwēng lǎorén 山翁老人, 1596–1674), whom he accompanied on the 1659–60 imperial summons to the capital. Assigned by the Kāngxī court to the abbacy of the Lóngānsì 隆安寺 in Shèngjīng (Shenyang), where he received the purple robe. Subsequently held five abbot’s seats: Lóngān, twice at Hángzhōu Fórìsì 佛日寺, Sūzhōu Bāoshān 包山, and the principal seat of Sìmíng Tiāntóng 四明天童. Buried near the stūpa of Mìān Xiánjié 密菴咸傑 at Zhōngfēng.

Principal editorial achievement: the 93-juan Zōngmén bǎojī lù 宗門寶積錄 (preface and table of contents only surviving as KR6q0388 in Kanripo; full work elsewhere), completed in 1679 per his teacher Dàomǐn’s deathbed charge. Also wrote an Zòuduì lù 奏對錄 (one juan, recording his imperial audiences) and a 10+-juan quánlù 全錄. Epitaph by the Grand Minister of Revenue Lǐ Xiāngēn 李仙根. Dharma-heirs include Wèihóng Yuánshèng 慰弘元盛 (杼山), Shìān Lǐ 式菴理, Jìng 靜 (Bǎitáng of Tiāntóng), and others.
