Qìnglì-era Confucian thinker and theorist of Zhōulǐ-based reform, Tàibó 泰伯, of Jiànchāngjūn Nánchéng 建昌軍南城 (Jiāngxī, on the Xūjiāng river — whence the title of his collection). Twice failed the jìnshì; finally honored at the special Màocái yìděng exam in 1043 in first place but disqualified by the Yǒusī. Founded the private Xūjiāng Shūyuàn 盱江書院 in Nánchéng — the model for many later Sòng private academies. Late in life held Tàixué zhíjiǎng 太學直講 (whence the SBCK title of his collection). Died en route to retirement in Jiāyòu 4 / 1059 age 51. Author of the Zhōulǐ zhì tàipíng lùn 周禮致太平論 (1043) — a substantial Confucian-utopian-administrative theory based on the Zhōulǐ that anticipates Wáng Ānshí’s later Xīníng program; the Lǐ lùn 禮論; the Yì lùn 易論 (a commentary rejecting the xiàngshù tradition); and the Chángyǔ 常語 (a jīngshì notebook). Surviving collection: Xūjiāng jí KR4d0042 (37 juǎn, Míng Chénghuà recension by Zuǒ Zàn 左贊 expanded from the original 12-juǎn Sòng arrangement by Zǔ Wúzé 祖無擇). CBDB id 3513.
