Mid-Qing scholar-official and philologist, zì Dàzōng 大宗, hào Jǐnpǔ 菫浦, of Rénhé 仁和 (modern Hangzhou, Zhejiang). Granted jǔrén status 1724; one of fifteen successful candidates of Qiánlóng 1’s Bóxué hóngcí examination (1736), appointed Hànlín Yuàn biānxiū. Removed from office in 1741 after his memorial advocating equal Han-Manchu treatment in official appointments incurred imperial displeasure; thereafter pursued a private scholarly career. His philological works include the Xù Fāngyán KR1j0015 (in Sìkù), the Shǐjì kǎoyì 史記考異, the Jǐnpǔ shīshuō 菫浦詩説, and Shíqīshǐ shāngquē 十七史商榷 (with Wáng Míngshèng 王鳴盛). Author also of the major Qing reference work Zhūshǐ rányí 諸史然疑. CBDB lifedates 1696–1773 in agreement with the catalog meta.
