Lín Hán 林釬 (1578–1636), zì Shífǔ 實甫, hào Hètái 鶴臺 and Jiǔgāo jūshì 九皋居士, posthumous title Wénmù 文穆. Born on Jīnmén 金門 island, registered as a native of Lóngxī 龍溪 (Zhāngzhōu prefecture, Fújiàn) where he was raised after his mother’s remarriage. Tànhuā (third-place jìnshì) of Wànlì 44 / bǐngchén (1616); served as Hànlín biānxiū, Guózǐjiān sīyè and Guózǐjiān jìjiǔ. He confronted Wèi Zhōngxián directly when the latter sought to commandeer the Guózǐjiān bronze tripods for re-coinage and likewise objected to Wèi’s effort to be ceremonially paired with Confucius; he retired in protest. Under Chóngzhēn he was recalled and rose to Dōnggé dàxuéshì (Grand Secretary of the Eastern Pavilion) before his death in 1636. His preface to 施邦曜’s edition of the Yángmíng xiānshēng jí yào (KR4e0245) is one of the four prefatory pieces preserved in the SBCK redaction (signing himself Mǐn Jiǔgāo jūshì hòuxué Lín Hán, the Mǐn- place-element marking his Fújiàn registration).
