Hǎidòng 海棟, hào Fǎzhù 法柱 (“Pillar of the Dharma”). LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Chángmíng Xìngjiǒng 性炅 (?–1668). Lifedates unknown. Native of Lǐzhōu Shímén 澧洲石門 (Húnán); lay surname Chén 陳.

Formation. Left home at 25 out of grief that he could not repay parental kindness; tonsured at Cílì Qīxīngshān 慈利七星山 under his teacher Chángmíng. Three years’ close training on the kōan “三不是”. Took full ordination at Lóngshān under Yǐngxiù 穎秀和尚, then accompanied Chángmíng to Yuánzhōu Míngshān 沅州明山, attending him with jīnpíng (towel-and-jar service) for seven years and receiving jìbié (sealing).

Abbacy. Chénzhōufǔ Tiānyúnshān Pǔfēngsì 辰州府天雲山浦峰寺.
