Jìshí 濟時
Mid-Kāngxī-period Buddhist Chán monk; abbot of the Gǔ Xìngfú Chánsì 古興福禪寺 at Lóudōng 婁東 (Tàicāng, Jiāngsū). Honorific Huìgōng 會公 (commonly Xìngfú Huìgōng 興福會公). Lifedates unrecorded; floruit Kāngxī 37–38 (1698–1699), when both his major works are dated. Trained at the Jièyútíng 戒𦤎亭 (precepts ordination); studied at the Língyǐn 靈隱; held abbatial residence at the Jìngshān 徑山 monastery near Hángzhōu before retiring to the Xìngfúsì at Tàicāng. Author of the Jīngāng jīng tíyào 金剛提要 (Vajracchedikā commentary, completed wùyín 戊寅 spring = 1698) and the ten-fascicle Lèngyánjīng zhèngjiàn 楞嚴經正見 (KR6j0725, X16 no. 317), the latter prefaced in Kāngxī jǐmǎo 己卯 (1699) by his Kūnshān co-disciple Shèng Fúshēng 盛符升 (then aged 89). The two works represent his “concentrated single-mind” (zhùzhóu yīxīn 杼軸一心) commentarial method on the two principal Mahāyāna sūtras of his Línjì-school formation.
