Zhēn 真 (full reference form Qǐzōng Zhēn 起宗真), Qǐzōng 起宗 (“Inception of the School”). LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of two teachers: Wéishān Gǔméi Dìngliè 定冽 (cf. KR6q0576) and Huáshān Dìngān Déjī 華山定菴德基律師. Born 明崇禎戊寅十月初二 = 1638-11-07 Gregorian; death year unknown — was 63 in 康熙三十九年 = 1700. Native of Zhēnzhōusī 真州司; lay surname 胡.

Formation. At 11 his mother died and he resolved to leave the world, but his father raged and prevented him. 庚午 = 1690 (at age 53!) finally gave up his lay life, entered a hermitage, invited Wéishān Gǔméi to perform the tonsure on him at the ān. The same year went to Huáshān 華山 for full ordination, then returned and received fùfǎ from Wéishān. After Wéishān’s death, returned to Huáshān to thank for the precepts, and there received a second fùfǎ from Dìngān Déjī.

Abbacy. Zhēnzhōu Huáyán chánsì 真州華嚴禪寺 (in his hometown).

Disciples. Lìrú 力如 (jìshì 記室), Lìguǎng 力廣 (compiler).
