Late-Táng Chán master (822–908), patriarchal figure of the Mǐn 閩 Chán lineages; teacher of Yúnmén Wényǎn 雲門文偃 (the eventual founder of the Yúnménzōng) and through Xuánshā Shībèi 玄沙師備 also the ancestor of the Fǎyǎn line.
