Hú Zhù 胡助 (b. 1278; fl. 1330–1351; CBDB gives b. 1278, d. unrecorded), zì Lǚxìn 履信, yīzì Gǔyú 古愚. Native of Dōngyáng 東陽 (Wūzhōu, Zhèjiāng). Initially recommended for Màocái; appointed Jiànkānglù rúxué xuélù; in succession Měihuà shūyuàn shānzhǎng; Wēnzhōulù rúxué jiàoshòu; on second recommendation, Hànlín Guóshǐyuàn biānxiūguān; retired with rank Chéngxìnláng, Tàicháng bóshì — by Zhìzhèng 5 (1345). Yú Jí’s bá to his Shàngjīng jìxíng jí characterized his “Lóngmén yǐhòu” verse as especially fine. Wú Chéng 吳澄 and Dèng Wényuán 鄧文原 wrote bá to his Luánpō xiǎolù and Shēng xué jìqì wén. Hú is most notable in early-Míng literary history as the xù-writer to Wú Lái 吳萊’s Yuānyǐng jí KR4d0501 — supplying the “others suffer shallowness — Lái alone suffers over-breadth” line that the Sìkù tíyào calls “dūlùn” (the settled verdict).
