Chuán 船 (Zǐzhōu Chāochuán 梓舟超船)
DILA-standardized Chāochuán 超船 (catalog meta uses the bare single-character 船), hào Zǐzhōu 梓舟. Born 己未 3/16 辰時 = 1619-04-29 Gregorian; native of Tóngchuānzhōu 童川州 (= 潼川州) in Chéngdūfǔ 成都府 (Sìchuān); lay surname Hé 何. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Èryǐn Bǎoān Mì 二隱寶安謐 at Jīngxī Bǎoānsì 荊溪保安寺.
Formation. 庚辰 = 1640: tonsured under Yìngchūn héshàng 映春和尚 at Báiliánān 白蓮庵. 壬午 = 1642: full precepts at Rónghuáshān 榮華山, where he prostrated through the Fǎhuá and Huáyán sūtras for three years (xié bù zhì xí 脅不至席). Late-Míng warfare-disruption and famine; began Guānyīn invocation; traveled to Nánhǎi and Bǎoníngfǔ 保寧府. 順治二 = 1645: pilgrimage circuit to Cuìyán 翠巖 (Jiāngxī), Yíxīng 宜興 to meet Wànrú Tōngwēi 通微, Húzhōu Bàoēnsì to meet Yùlín Tōngxiù 玉林通琇, Jìngshān to meet Fèiyǐn Tōngróng 費隱通容, Tiāntóng to meet Mùyún Tōngmén 牧雲通門, Língyǐn to meet Jùdé Hónglǐ 具德弘禮, Tiāntóng to meet Mùchén Dàomín 道忞, Sāntǎ to meet Zìxián 自閒 — total nine years (bìng zhū dàlǎo gòng jiǔ zǎi 并諸大老共九載). The pilgrimage embraces virtually every major Mì-yún-line successor of the period.
Two-yǐn transmission and abbacies. Final teacher Èryǐn Mì 二隱謐 at Huátíng Chuánzǐ Fǎrěnsì 華亭船子法忍寺 — four years with frequent tòngbàng 痛棒 beatings. Three-year yǐnguān 隱關 closed retreat at Gǔxīnān 古心庵 with tányuè lay-patron Wánggōng 王公. 庚子 = 1660: summoned by Èryǐn at Jīngxī Bǎoānsì 荊溪保安寺; on the chūguān 出關 question Chuán’s reply pò 破 (“smashed”) prompted Èryǐn to formally transmit fú whisk and verse, appointing him dūjiān 都監. Retreat to Lúshān 廬山 after the master’s death; subsequent abbacies at Xiāngzhōu Lùménsì 襄州鹿門寺 (Húběi, 2 years) and Tánxī gǔsì 檀溪古寺 (which he restored, hence the title-form 壇溪梓舟船 / 檀溪梓舟船).

KR6q0464 《壇溪梓舟船禪師語錄》 3 juan, Jiāxīng Canon J33 B281, compiled by ménrén Míngfǎ 明法 děng, with front-preface by Zhāng Lián / Tōngshēng 武張聯法名通陞 (lay-Chán figure who met Chuán in 甲辰 = 1664 at Lùméntān 鹿門灘 and again in 丙午 = 1666 at WǔHàn), framing Chuán as Nánzōng Běizōng hé yī yě 南宗北宗合一也, yī yè wǔ huā huì yuán yě 一葉五花匯源也 — ie. uniting the Línjì and Cáodòng currents.
