Dàochéng 道澄, Kōnggǔ 空谷 (“Empty Valley”); often referred to as Kōnggǔ Dàochéng 空谷道澄. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Mǐnshù Rúxiāng 如相 (1603–1672, cf. KR6q0564). Born 1616; death year unknown — was 79 in 1694 (per the yǔlù line “qīshí jiǔ lái cháo Pǔtuó” 七十九來朝普陀). Native of Zhōngzhōu 忠州 (Sìchuān); lay surname Yáng 楊.

Formation. Early breakthrough on the wànfǎ guī yī gōngàn; visited Wànfēng 萬峰 and received first sealing from Mǐnshù Rúxiāng 敏樹相. After traveling many places, returned to the Sìchuān gorge region (峽) to formally inherit dharma from Pòshānlǎorén 破山老人 (= Pòshān Hǎimíng → 樹 lineage; the lineage notation is partly garbled in the xíngshí).

Abbacies (the major Línjì-court appointment). Sānshèngsì 三聖寺 (early, in Sìchuān); then Chénjīng 宸京 (Beijing) where he received an imperial-class invitation from Shùnchéngwáng 順承王 (a Manchu Prince of the Eight Banners) to take the Báitǎ Zhēnrú chányuàn 白塔真如禪院 abbacy. 癸亥十月 = 1683-10 returned to Sìchuān to perform the stupa-cleaning ritual at his teacher Mǐnshù 如相’s grave at Wànxiàn 萬縣.

Disciples. Major fǎsì include Chuándēng Xù 傳燈續, Chèmíng Xiàn 徹明現, Xǐzhǐ Qín 璽旨勤, Hánrùn Cí 含潤慈, Xiānglín Rén 香林仁, Xuějū Yáng 雪居暘, Fóshān 佛山禪師, Jìngfán Rèn 淨凡任, Zhànqīng Dérú 湛清德儒 德儒.

Work. KR6q0583 《空谷道澄禪師語錄》 — a massive 20-juan yǔlù, J39 B471, compiled by fǎsì Dérú 德儒 biān. Among the largest single-author Línjì yǔlù in the Jiāxīng Canon.
