Suí Wéndì 隋文帝 (personal name Yáng Jiān 楊堅, 541–604 CE), founder of the Suí 隋 dynasty and reigned 581–604, who reunified China after the long Northern–Southern division. A devout Buddhist patron, he sponsored the imperial Yìjīngyuàn 譯經院 (Translation Bureau) at Cháng’ān, established the Dàxīngshànsì 大興善寺, ordered the construction of sàrīra stūpas throughout the empire, and patronised the Buddhist translation projects of 闍那崛多 Jñānagupta and other Gandhāran-Indic monks. Under his patronage was completed the principal Suí Buddha-biography sūtra [[KR6b0047|Fó běnxíng jí jīng 佛本行集經 (T190)]] and numerous other Suí translations.
