Gāo Wǔ 高武 (hào Méigūzǐ 梅孤子, fl. early 16th c., 明), Míng-period acupuncturist of Sìmíng 四明 (modern Níngbō, Zhèjiāng). A pre-eminent acupuncture philologist of the Jiājìng period. Originally a literatus-soldier (he held a military jǔrén / 武舉 degree, hence the name 武), Gāo turned to medicine when his original career in formulary-only practice failed him in clinical situations requiring acupuncture intervention (his preface to the Jùyīng recounts this autobiography). Author of three foundational Míng acupuncture critical works: the Zhēnjiǔ jiéyào 針灸節要 (KR3ee028, an abridgment-and-restoration of the NèijīngNànjīng acupuncture doctrine); the Zhēnjiǔ jùyīng 針灸聚英 (KR3ee014, 1529, the standard Míng critical compendium); and the Zhēnjiǔ sùnàn yàozhǐ 針灸素難要旨 (KR3ee021, a topical synthesis of the SùwènNànjīng acupuncture chapters). His critical-philological method — verifying all post-classical didactic verse against the NèijīngNànjīng originals — set the methodological standard for Yáng Jìzhōu’s later Zhēnjiǔ dàchéng (KR3ee027). Birth and death dates are not recorded; his three major works are dated 1519, 1529, and ca. 1537, placing his active period firmly in the early-Jiā-jìng era. No CBDB record could be matched with confidence.
